Better Not Get Wet, Jesse Bear
Published in School & Library Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (March, 1988)
Average review score:

Better Not Get Wet, Jesse BearThis is the second book we've read in the Jesse Bear Series, and we love it as much as the first one, "What Will You Wear Jesse Bear?" We plan to buy the rest. The illustrations are wonderful and hold my two year olds attention as he soaks up all details. He loves the little bear and his parents. The rhyming style is very catchy and has enough repetition to keep a toddler involved. The book shows a typical toddler (who happens to be a bear) trying his best to get wet in all sorts of daily activities. He is continually thwarted by the warning "Better not get wet Jesse Bear!" until his parent bears finally let him loose in his own pool. My son LOVES to say that line as it is repeated throughout the story and yell "SPLASH" when Jesse Bear gets to jump into his pool. Surprisingly, the book made the sublte point to my son about puddles and such. When he runs across them now, he shakes his head and says "better not wet, Jesse Bear"

Betty Bear's Birthday
Published in Hardcover by Jb Communication (April, 1989)
Average review score:

One Of My Childhood Favorites!Betty Bear's Birthday was one of my favorite picture books as a pre-schooler, and I am saddened to see that it is out of print. It's a very sweet story about a little bear named Betty who believes that everyone has forgotten her birthday until her friends surprise her with a special picnic. The illustrations are beautiful and remind me a bit of Japanese anime. If you are able to find this book, it's certainly a nice addition to any child's library.

Big Bear Ball
Published in Hardcover by HarperCollins (28 May, 2002)
Average review score:

Have a Bear of a Good Time.....The sun sets, the moon rises, and here come the bears, arriving on foot through the forest and in brightly colored hot air balloons. "A broad-beamed caller/howdys all:/Welcome, friends,/to our Big Bear Ball." The music plays, the bears begin to dance, and a rip-roarin'good time is had by all. "Small bears sway/and slap your paws./Tall bears stomp/and pop your jaws.// Two paws up,/waving high./Catch some stars/and scratch the sky." And as the celebration moves through the forest, moles and foxes are awakened and join in, frogs jump up and sing along, and even an old alligator joins all the fun.....Joanne Ryder's engaging text begs to be read aloud, is filled with rhythm, rhyme, energy and motion, and complemented by Steven Kellogg's bold, vibrant and expressive artwork. Eye-popping illustrations dazzle with bright colors, marvelous facial expressions, and woodland detail that is sure to captivate little ones as they linger before turning the page. Together word and art create an entertaining and joyous, finger-snapping, toe-tapping romp. Perfect for preschoolers, Big Bear Ball is a winner, and a picture book kids will want to read again and again. "Go lightly, sprightly,/on your way./May you dance/with the music/as we welcome the day. // Farewell one!/Farewell all!/See you next full moon/at our Big Bear Ball."
